Roof Repair and Replacement

Storm Damage

When the roof on your home needs to be repaired or replaced, you want a roofing company you can trust and depend on to complete the job in an efficient, timely and affordable manner.  If your residential roof is in bad shape, don't wait until your ceiling is leaking and your home has water damage.

Schedule Your Repair

How do you spot storm damage on your roof?

Because storms are such a common part of life here in Texas, many of our residents aren’t exactly thrilled about the idea of calling a roofer to come out for an inspection after every storm. However, we can’t emphasize enough how important it is to get a professional look at your roof after severe storms. Hiring a roofing contractor after severe weather is essential for keeping your roof and your home in the best possible shape; plus, it could help to ensure that you get the most out of your insurance claim. But, for a minor storm, it doesn’t hurt to look for storm damage on your own. Here’s how:

Inspect the attic

Believe it or not, one of the best places to look for storm damage to your roof is actually on the inside of your home! Inspect your attic for any signs of water damage or leaking. If there are any water stains on the walls or ceiling in your attic, you’ll need to call in a professional for repair or replacement.

Watch for storm damage on the ground.

Sometimes, you’ll be able to see evidence of storm damage on your roof in your yard. After a storm, check your yard for missing pieces of metal from your chimney, missing shingles or shingle granules. It’s also important to inspect the edges where your roof and walls meet, as well as exhaust pipes and the gutter system.

Look for shingle damage.

Heavy wind and hail can do a lot of damage to asphalt shingles. If you have missing shingles, or you’ve noticed that your shingles have curled, torn or buckled after a storm, it’s time to call in a roofing contractor. If the storm in question was a hail storm, you should also look for small dimples in your shingles and siding.

Do not get on your roof by yourself!

No matter how tempting it is, you should avoid getting up on your roof by yourself to check for storm damage. Not only could you end up getting hurt, but you could also accidentally cause additional damage to your roof by stepping in the wrong spot.

There are a lot of different things you can do to look for storm damage on your own, but if you’re unsure of what to look for or you’ve been in a severe storm, let the experts at Lone Star Roofing & Gutters help. In addition to experienced roofing contractors, we also have licensed insurance adjusters on staff, so we can even help you file your claim!

Recent Storm Damage?

On April 15, Central Texas had what insurance companies labelled "A Catastrophic Hail Storm". If you and your home were in the path of this storm, the possibilities of having significant damage to your roof is very high.

Roof hail damage can happen after any hail storm, no matter what size of hail falls from the sky. Even pea-sized hail can cause hail damage on roofs. The most common roof hail damage from pea-sized hail is dents and dings, which can affect the value of the home and the integrity of the roof. If the hailstorm throws down golf ball size or tennis ball size hail, the force of impact can shatter skylights, rip off gutters, shred the exterior paint and break through shingles.

When the hail hits, you need to take action!

The first thing to do after a hailstorm is get a hail damage roof inspection from LSR&G's qualified roofing contractors. The advantage of a roof inspection is to find out what kind of roof hail damage has occurred before you call your insurance company. Our inspections are free, so there is no risk or obligation to have a roof inspection for hail damage. With over 20 years of experience in insurance claims,  we will work with your insurance company and help you through the claims process.

Wind Damage

During severe storms here in Texas, forceful winds inflict more damage than hail year after year.  This may occur gradually as wind slowly uplifts shingles, or it can happen in one severe thunderstorm.

We're Here to Help With Your Wind Damaged Roof Repair

4 Signs Your Roofing System Sustained Wind Damage

  • Missing Shingles – If your roof has some years on it and a strong storm passes by your area, check your roof for missing shingles once it’s passed. This is because missing shingles are one of the common signs of wind damage to a roof and can be caused by a combination of strong winds, heavy rain, or falling tree branches.

  • Roof Leaks – This is the easiest sign that your roof sustained wind damage since water is entering your home from the ceiling when they shouldn’t be. To confirm this, look in your attic or your top floor for wet spots or dripping water. If your roof is leaking, call an expert roofer immediately to fix the damage.

  • Shingle Granules on the Gutter – After the storm, make sure to check your gutters for shingle granules. High winds and strong rains can wash the granules away from the shingle and cause them to fall into your gutters. As always, if you notice excessive shingle granule loss on some parts of your roof, call a professional immediately to repair the roof.

  • Curling – Compared to missing shingles, curling shingles can be more difficult to spot from ground level. With that in mind, make sure to call a roofing contractor to inspect and repair your roof immediately as curled shingles can no longer prevent water from seeping through your roofing system, making it more vulnerable to leaks.
